Autumn season of Vata - Is this your dosha ?

Dosha - what is dosha you may ask.

According to the Ayuredia there are three doshas found throughout the human body and mind derived from the five elements.

Pitta, Vata, Kapha

We generally all have a unique combination of all three and this natural balance is responsible for physical, mental and emotional well being. Yet as we become older, work, life, commitments and responsibilities we become less balanced or work on trying to become more balanced, yet often we don't know how to do that. The key is trying to have a steady balance in the body - knowing your dosha type you will have a better understanding how the body and mind works .

As we are in the Autumn season - this is our Vata types. Yes that would be me. The summer is over and us vatas are thrilled for the cooler weather ,not so bright sunshine, as we tend to be sensitive to bright lights, hot sun we can do without, as for our food, not too spicy, not too sour, not too hard not too soft, you see where I'm going with this...

So how do you know what dosha you are? You can take an on line test - its very easy and fast. You simply have to answer a series of questions and tally up the total. I find it fascinating and it makes so much more sense to understand what your body and mind enjoys more when it comes to seasons, food, health, fitness. Once you discover your able to avoid foods and lifestyles that aggravate your dosha - vatas for example have dry skin, flaky scalp, dry thin hair, sensitive to very bright lights, or very loud music, when you know this your able to control your environment so much for efficiently - avoiding that unbalance within.

So the Autumn season is vata we are in our glory. We become very creative. Our elements are space and Air.

So we love to breath in fresh crisp air, and having our own time, freedom and space is vital.

Vatas have a very spacey mind where we can become anxious and very active not only in body but mind.

Vatas speak very fast, joints crack, always on the go, enthusiastic in our day to day life.

Vatas Physical character

Thin, light frame, sudden bouts of fatigue, cold hands and feet, sleep light, and very sensitive digestive system. When unbalanced it manifests in the body, as weight loss, constipation, arthritis, weakness, restlessness.

Emotional

Quick to anger, but also forgive, tend to worry a lot and suffer from insomnia

How to Balance - You will no if your unbalanced when you feel your life is out of control. You sleep late , skip meals, anxiety creeps in. When you get this feeling you must balance yourself out. To do this Vatas need to be

*in bed before 10pm, up at 6am

*eat regular meals,

*daily oils on the skin, almond or sesame

*exercise such as yoga, walking, hiking, tennis, dance, golf,

*drink fresh root ginger tea

*listen to calming music

*regular massage treatments

*favour heavier fruits such as bananas, avocados, mangos, plums, pineapple,

*eat fewer dry fruits such as apples, pears, cranberries

*cooked vegetables are best, raw foods should be kept to a minimum.

*spices that help data are cumin, ginger, cinnamon, fennel, oregano, sage, tarragon, thyme, and black pepper.

*beans can aggravate so keep them to a minimum,

Other benefits to support Vata - daily routines and organised schedules are important to keep us focused. A clean home is a clean mind! so sleep is key, eat regularly, daily routines, calming music, good warm hearty foods, with light exercise and we are good to go. So vatas embrace the autumn season this is when your at your happiest.

And of course those who are not Vata - you may see or recognise some of these in you, as we do dip in and out of all 3. So its useful to know and understand all doshas so we don't stay on the crazy train too long.

Love and light to you all, I hope you have had a wonderful weekend.

Om Shanti shanti shanti x
